Killarney Recreation Club

The Killarney Recreation Club is a community recreation facility on Willow Street in Killarney, Queensland. It includes the Recreation Hall, sporting facilities, grounds and camping areas and is used extensively for community events and activities.

The club is an incorporated community organisation and has been operating since 1999. Its facilities are used by local sporting and community groups as well as visitors to the Killarney district.

More than a hall

The Recreation Club is a broader community facility rather than simply a hall for hire. The site includes sporting grounds and facilities, with the Recreation Hall providing an indoor venue for community gatherings, events and functions.

The club is closely connected with other Killarney organisations and regularly works alongside groups such as the Killarney Show & Rodeo Society, Killarney Polocrosse Club and local community organisations.

Community use

The Recreation Club is regularly used for community events and activities. In May 2026, it hosted the Killarney and District Community Connections Expo, which brought more than 400 people together with more than 40 community organisations, service providers, sporting groups and emergency services.

The club also hosts events such as ANZAC Day activities, community gatherings and sporting events.

Camping and facilities

The Recreation Club has facilities for visitors as well as the local community. Camping is available on the recreation grounds and the site is used as a base for major local events, including the Killarney Bonfire Night and trail-bike events.

The combination of the hall, recreation grounds and camping facilities makes the site particularly useful for larger community gatherings and events involving people travelling from outside Killarney.

A community-run facility

Killarney Recreation Club Inc is an active incorporated community organisation. The club has sought and received community funding for improvements, including a $40,096.60 Gambling Community Benefit Fund grant in 2024 to install lighting and purchase equipment.

The club’s facilities are maintained and operated for the benefit of the Killarney community and surrounding district.

Funerals and memorials

The Recreation Hall provides another option for families wanting to hold a funeral or memorial gathering in Killarney rather than using a church or dedicated funeral chapel.

Its location within a broader community recreation facility can be particularly useful for larger gatherings or for families bringing people into Killarney from elsewhere.

A funeral held at the Recreation Hall does not have to follow a traditional format. It can simply provide a comfortable local place for family, friends and the wider community to gather, remember someone and share time together.

Killarney

Killarney is a small rural community in the Southern Downs Region, surrounded by the mountains and farming country of the Condamine River headwaters.

The Recreation Club is part of a network of local organisations and facilities that give Killarney much of its community character. It is a place used not only by sporting groups, but by the wider community for events, celebrations and gatherings.
