- Address: 89 MacIntyre St, Leyburn QLD 4365
The Leyburn QCWA Hall is located at 89 MacIntyre Street, Leyburn QLD 4365, in the small rural community of Leyburn.
The hall is a longstanding community facility with strong connections to the local Queensland Country Women’s Association branch and has been used for community meetings, gatherings and local activities.
A piece of Leyburn history
The Leyburn branch of the Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA) was established in 1924. The hall was built in 1928 and enlarged in 1954, giving it a long history as a meeting place for the local community.
The hall and its surrounding tennis courts have also been recognised as part of Leyburn’s heritage and community landscape.
Community use
The hall continues to provide a practical gathering place for Leyburn. Southern Downs Regional Council has used the hall for community consultation and meetings, including its Connecting with Council sessions.
For a small rural village, facilities such as the QCWA Hall provide an important place for people to come together without having to travel to a larger centre.
Funerals and memorials
A community hall can provide families with an alternative to a church or dedicated funeral chapel for a funeral or memorial gathering.
The Leyburn QCWA Hall offers a local option for families from Leyburn and the surrounding rural district. Its long connection with the community can also make it a particularly familiar and meaningful place to gather.
A funeral held at a community hall does not have to follow a traditional format. The hall can simply provide somewhere for family, friends and neighbours to come together, remember someone and share time together.
