Natural Death Advocacy Network (NDAN)
The Natural Death Advocacy Network (NDAN) is an Australian network and advocacy partnership of community facilitators, professionals, activists and educators working to enrich the experience of dying and death.
NDAN advocates for informed choice around end of life, including death education, funeral planning, family-led funeral care, natural burial and bereavement care. Its broader work also includes areas such as home-based death care, shrouded cremation and emerging forms of body disposition.
We are paying members of NDAN because its approach aligns closely with the way we think about death care: people should understand their options and the law before they make decisions.
What Does NDAN Do?
NDAN provides education, resources, advocacy and networking for people interested in changing the way Australians think about dying and death.
It runs workshops, meetups and informal “death café” style gatherings, both online and in communities around Australia. Its resources cover end of life planning, death care, body disposition, natural burial and grief and bereavement care.
NDAN also maintains a directory of advocates and a listing of natural burial grounds that have joined its natural burial membership program.
Why We Are Members
There is a lot of tradition and assumption around death and funerals.
NDAN’s work is about opening that up.
It encourages people to learn what is possible, understand their options and make informed, lawful and meaningful decisions. That includes recognising that families can have a much more active role in death care and funeral arrangements than they may realise.
That is very much in keeping with what we try to do at Rest.
More information. Less mystery. More choice.
